i will follow you into the dark
The funny thing about this title is that I had already picked the title for my post, and then checked out Ritu's profile and discovered that she was using the exact same line. It is a very moving song; even though I only downloaded it a few days ago, it's already been played 48 times on my iTunes. I like to listen to songs incessantly, and this one is a good one--so go download 'I Will Follow You Into the Dark' by Death Cab for Cutie. It's well worth it.
Today, I had trouble waking up, but did make it to brunch. We tried to go someplace new for brunch (Fusion 9, which is definitely not new on our restaurant list, but is new for brunch), but we hadn't made a reservation and so they wouldn't take us. We ended up going back to the Taj Krishna, which was tasty enough. Then, I went shopping with Lauren and Josh; we went to Cotton India (where I got a couple of outfits made), then to Qmart (where we bought groceries for dinner), then to Langoors (where I picked up three more bedspreads--someone needs to save me from myself). We came home and I talked to my parents (always entertaining). Then, Matt and Jessie joined us and the five of us cooked dinner. It was v. shocking to actually cook something after such a long hiatus, and I felt like I didn't know what I was doing at all. We made pasta with a tasty tomato/eggplant/mushroom/garlic sauce, and cooked up some chicken to add in (since Lauren is veg). Lauren and Jessie also made 'bruschetta'; we didn't have any bread other than four slices of sandwich bread, nor do we have a broiler or an oven, and we only had one remaining tomato. So, they put the bread in the toaster, then put one tomato slice on each piece of bread, and we drizzled it with a really tasty mixture of olive oil and garlic. It turned out surprisingly good despite the fact that it looked so ridiculous that I was forced to take a picture of it. We also drank one of the bottles of wine that I brought back from Bordeaux, and generally had a lovely dinner. It didn't require a lot of effort (and it was nice that we could leave everything in the kitchen for the servants to clean tomorrow), but it tasted so good mostly because we made it. Also, it tasted good because it wasn't prepared hours in advance and left on the table to rot. Mmm, sanitary food. So good!
I can't believe that I'm leaving so soon! My weekends are quickly filling up, and I need to figure out what I'm doing. Next weekend is my birthday, and I'd rather spend it here racing autorickshaws, but I made need to take a trip instead (to Hampi, home of a bunch of great ruins, and where I fully intend to do the 'Hampi dance'). This is because I want to see Vishal, and the only weekend that would fit well for that is the weekend after next. So, we shall see. I am not thoroughly excited about spending my birthday sleeping on an Indian train, but worse things have happened on my birthday (ha!) and so I really can't complain.
Okay, it's time for bed, since I have lots to do tomorrow. I'll see if there are any pictures that I want to post; if not, forgive me, and sleep well!
